This large concrete driveway at a Shawano, WI home included the approach to an impressive five-stall garage, making the concrete a major part of the property. Over time, multiple driveway slabs had settled and the surface had developed cracking throughout several areas. The combination of sunken slabs, uneven transitions, and open cracks affected both the appearance and function of the driveway.

With such a large concrete surface, keeping water from reaching the supporting soils is especially important. Rain and melting snow can enter through cracks and joints, contributing to soil erosion and void formation. Wisconsin’s repeated freeze-thaw cycles can further contribute to movement beneath the slabs.

Sure-Dry used PolyLevel® throughout the driveway to address the settled areas. Unlike traditional mudjacking, which uses a heavy cement-based slurry, PolyLevel uses lightweight expanding polyurethane foam to fill voids and precisely lift the concrete. It requires smaller injection holes, adds very little weight to the underlying soil, and cures quickly.

The crew carefully lifted and stabilized the sunken driveway slabs with PolyLevel, improving the transitions between sections of concrete and across the approaches to the five garage stalls.

Because of the driveway’s size and the amount of cracking, NexusPro® was used extensively throughout the project. The crew sealed cracks and joints across the entire driveway, helping prevent water from traveling through these openings and reaching the supporting soils below.

Completing both the lifting and extensive sealing created a noticeable transformation. This large Shawano driveway now has better-supported slabs, smoother transitions, sealed cracks and joints, and added protection against the conditions that can contribute to future settlement.
