Before

A homeowner in New London, WI had a serious foundation problem developing in their basement. One of the foundation walls had experienced severe deflection and was visibly bowing inward toward the basement.

A bowing basement wall is an important warning sign because it can indicate that pressure from the surrounding soil is exceeding what the wall can resist. Wisconsin's changing soil moisture, heavy precipitation and freeze-thaw cycles can increase lateral pressure against foundation walls. As that pressure builds over time, homeowners may notice horizontal cracking, stair-step cracks, inward movement or walls that are no longer straight.

Because of the amount of inward deflection at this home, the wall needed permanent structural stabilization rather than a cosmetic repair.

After

Sure-Dry installed GeoLock® Wall Anchors to permanently stabilize the affected foundation wall.

Steel anchor plates were installed in stable soil outside the foundation and connected to heavy-duty steel wall plates inside the basement using galvanized steel rods. Once secured, the system counteracts the pressure being placed against the wall and prevents additional inward movement.

An important advantage of the wall anchor system is that, when conditions allow, the anchors can also be tightened over time in an effort to improve the position of the wall.

With the severely bowing wall stabilized, this New London homeowner now has a permanent foundation repair system protecting this important part of the home's structure.

Before

To address humidity and help keep the basement environment drier, Sure-Dry also installed a SaniDry™ dehumidifier. Unlike a small portable dehumidifier that requires frequent emptying, the system is designed for the demands of a basement environment and drains automatically.

Together, the wall encapsulation, sump system and humidity control transformed this damp fieldstone basement into a cleaner, drier and better-protected area beneath the home.
