A family in Little Chute, WI had lived in their late 1960s ranch-style home for over a dozen years. When, recently, they began to grow concerned about the Radon gas levels in their half-finished basement, where their kids would spend many hours playing in.
To see if their concern about Radon Gas levels being too high, they called Sure-Dry to come take a look. Our excellent crew at Sure-Dry came in within just a few days and used our conventional charcoal tests. These tests revealed a level above the 4.0 pCi/L EPA recommended action level. They then did an extended electronic sample test that revealed a level of 18.6. They immediately got on the Sure Dry production calendar.
Sealing up a sump and any concrete cracks is essential to the proper operation of a Radon mitigation system. They decided it was time to retire their old sump pump system. Years earlier they had had a flooded basement from a stuck float and had to bail water out when a motor burned out. Their battery backup system had proved problematic as well, so they decided to install our sealed lid Triple Safe Sump Pump System, which features two high-quality motors and a battery back up system capable of handling great volumes of water, even if the power went out.
Once the Triple Safe and premium Radon Mitigation system were installed a Radon re-test of the basement showed a level of 1.4 pCi/L, well below the action level, which is very good!
These homeowners are sleeping much better at night during storms knowing that their basement is safe from flooding and free from the threat of high Radon gas.
