The Effect Winter has on Your Wisconsin Foundation

Cold weather creates coldness in the earth when it reaches the freezing point of 32°, causing moisture from the cold weather to turn to ice and creating soil expansion. In return, that soil expansion puts pressure on basement walls which can cause them to bow and crack.

A problem can occur when the ground starts to thaw at different paces. The spots that remain frozen will create expansion putting pressure on your foundation wall. Other issues that may occur are from the continuous pushing of soil against a deck that has been there for a decade; you may not notice that it’s settling. Another issue is that a faucet on the outside of the home can drip causing one area of the wall to deteriorate.

At Sure-Dry we have multiple solutions to fixing the foundation. When we come out for an inspection we look at the whole picture to determine what products and procedures are best for that home’s situation. A good understanding with common sense plays a key part in fixing a bowing foundation wall. It’s important to think about what could have happened in between the time the home was built and when the wall started to bow. This is an indication that the wall needs additional support and strength.

Sure-Dry has been in business for 18 years and we cover a broad range of areas from the Lake Michigan shoreline to Highway 60 that runs east and west, to about 20 miles west of Marshfield and up along the Michigan boundary. We will come out and give you our expert opinion as to the best way to correct the problem while providing no pressure to you. Contact us today for your FREE Quote!
